What is the relationship between Benevity and the foundations it works with?

Benevity is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology company based in Canada. We work with various independent charitable foundations around the globe to support and facilitate charitable donations that support nonprofit organizations for charitable purposes.

Each independent charitable foundation is a registered charitable organization with its own mission, governance, and compliance requirements aligned with the laws and regulations of its jurisdiction. Each charitable foundation is governed by an independent board of trustees or directors, who oversee governance and ensure it remains compliant with applicable laws.

Benevity currently works with foundations registered in the following countries:

  • Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • India
  • Ireland
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

Some of these charitable foundations work exclusively with Benevity for receiving donations and making disbursements, while others work with Benevity as well as other entities. Benevity conducts extensive due diligence on these charitable foundations before working with them and continues to monitor them throughout the relationship.

Benevity's Role as a Service Provider

Benevity acts as a service provider to the foundations under formal written agreements (Master Services Agreements, or MSA) with each.

Benevity services include:

  • Preparing and sending Donation Reports  to corporate donors.
  • Preparing and sending donation receipts or acknowledgements to corporate and individual donors.
  • Conducting due diligence (validation and verification) of nonprofits.
  • Collecting due diligence documentation from recipient nonprofits.

Each charitable foundation pays fees to Benevity for the services provided. Please review the Causes Terms of Use and visit our Foundations (disbursing entities) article for more information on the charitable foundations and the terms governing disbursements.
