You can apply for PayPal disbursements through the Causes Portal. The email address on your PayPal account must use a domain tied to your organization (for example, contact@organization-name.org). Generic email domains aren't accepted (for example, organization-name@emailprovider.com).
How to apply for PayPal disbursements
- Navigate to the Donation Method tab in the Causes Portal.
- Select Update Donation Payment Method and choose PayPal as your payment method.
- Complete all required fields marked with a red asterisk (*).
- Upload your PayPal verification screenshot. It must show your nonprofit name and the full, uncensored email address linked to your PayPal account. To get this view, go to Account Owner Information in your PayPal profile and select Update beside your email address. Accepted formats are PDF, GIF, JPG, JPEG, and PNG. Files must be less than 32 MB.
- Upload your authorization letter. It must be on your organization's letterhead and in a non-editable format (for example, PDF). It must confirm the email address associated with your organization's PayPal account.
- Review your information and select Submit.
After you submit your application
The Benevity Finance team manually reviews all PayPal applications. Processing times vary based on submission volume. When the review's complete, you'll receive an email notification. Your status in the Donation Method tab updates automatically.
While your application is under review, your organization can still receive donations from donors in the US and Canada. The default payment method is by cheque.
