Why did my organization receive a check from Benevity?

Your organization received a check because a donor supported you through their workplace giving program, which is powered by Benevity. Donations are usually sent electronically, but checks are issued to U.S. and Canadian charities if they've not signed up for Electronic Funds Transfer. Registering for electronic payments helps you receive funds faster and with lower costs.

Why your organization was selected

  • A donor who works for or is connected with one of Benevity’s 900+ client companies chose to support your organization.

  • As a registered 501(c)(3) charity in the United States or a Canada Revenue Agency–registered charity in Canada, your organization is automatically listed in Benevity’s platform for donors to find and support.

  • You do not need to apply to be included, but registering in the Benevity Causes Portal helps improve your profile and increases donor engagement.

How to receive funds faster

Checks can take longer to arrive and cost more to process. To avoid delays, we strongly recommend signing up for electronic payments. This ensures your organization receives donations more quickly and with fewer administrative costs.

By setting up electronic payments in the Benevity Causes Portal, your organization can receive support from donors faster and put funds to use sooner.

Check thresholds

  • Benevity sends checks to U.S. and Canadian charities when total donations for that organization reach at least $100 across all client companies.

  • This threshold reduces costs and makes disbursement more efficient.

  • If donations do not reach $100, they are held until the annual payout, which is distributed on or before February 28 each year.
