What documents are required for EFT applications in the USA?

Supporting documents for Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) applications vary depending on the country or region where your nonprofit is located. If your nonprofit is based in the United States, the requirements below apply to you.

You must provide one official bank-issued document when you apply for EFT in the USA. The document must show your account details clearly. All information you enter in the EFT application form must match the document exactly.

What bank documents can I submit?

You can provide one of the following official bank-issued documents:

  • Void check
  • Bank letter (on official bank letterhead)

Not accepted: Bank statements, payroll or direct deposit forms

What information must my document include?

Your supporting document must display the following details. You must also enter these details exactly as they appear on the document in your EFT application form:

  • Account Holder Name (Beneficiary)
  • Account Number
  • Account Type (for example, Checking or Savings)
  • Routing (ABA) Number

The supporting document must be clear, legible, and unaltered. If the form requests additional details not listed above, include them in the document as well.

How do I avoid a declined application?

Before you upload your document, review it carefully. Confirm that it meets all requirements. Verify that the information you enter in the form is accurate and consistent with the document.

Your EFT application may be declined for a few different reasons:

  • Account details do not match
  • Information is incorrect or missing
  • The supporting document is invalid
