Why was my Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) application declined?

When submitting an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) application, all details provided must exactly match the supporting document. Additionally, the supporting document must contain all the required bank account details. If your application status is Invalid or Declined, it may be due to one of the following reasons:

1. Account name mismatch

The account name on the form and/or the supporting document does not match the name on your cause profile.

Benevity can only disburse funds to a bank account that has the exact same name as what is listed on the cause profile. If there is a discrepancy—such as a school submitting bank details for a school district—the supporting document must include a letter explaining the difference and confirming that the account can receive funds on behalf of your organization.

This letter should be:

  •  Issued by your bank or
  • Signed by your organization’s board

2. Form information does not match the supporting document

The details entered in the application form must exactly match the information in the supporting document.

During the review process, our system cross-references your form with the supporting document. One of the most common reasons for rejection is a minor error in the account number or other details typed into the form. Please double-check all information before submitting your application.

3. Missing or invalid supporting document

Your supporting document must include all required information and meet the following criteria:

  • It must be issued by your bank (e.g., a letter from the bank, a void check, or a bank statement).
  • It cannot be an editable or handwritten document.
  • The document format must be PDF, GIF, JPG, JPEG, or PNG.
  • If any required details are missing, your application may be declined.

4. Bank account is in a non-local currency

We can only process disbursements to a bank account in your country’s local currency. For example, if your organization is based in the UK, you must provide a GBP bank account. A USD account would not be accepted.

If your EFT application was declined, please review the reasons above, correct any discrepancies, and submit a new application with the required information.

Ready to submit a new application? Gather your supporting documents and log into the Causes Portal to sign up for EFT payments.
