Your organisation's profile status can become inactive on the Benevity platform for several reasons. Some are related to eligibility and compliance; others to account status or administrative changes.
Understanding the reason for your inactive status is the first step to resolving it.
Common reasons for inactive status
Your organisation may be inactive for one of the following reasons:
- Requested removal: Your organisation chose to remove its profile from the platform. This can happen if you've decided not to participate in corporate giving programmes, if your organisation has restrictions on accepting funds from certain industries, or if you've merged with another non-profit.
- Charitable status no longer valid: Your organisation has lost its charitable status in its registered region. This can happen if required filings weren't completed on time or if your organisation no longer meets the requirements of its governing regulatory body.
- Organisation closed: Your organisation is no longer operating or has announced its intent to dissolve.
- Country currently ineligible: Non-profits in your country are not currently eligible on the Benevity platform. This may be because the country is subject to sanctions, local licensing or reporting requirements can't be supported, or because Benevity may not facilitate validations in your country.
- Does not meet Terms of Use requirements: Your organisation was found to be in breach of Benevity's Causes Terms of Use. This can include activities such as fraud, appearing on a recognised watchlist or sanctions list, or engaging in discrimination or hate speech. Whenever possible, Benevity gives your organisation the opportunity to resolve the issue before deactivation. See What happens if my organisation is found out of compliance?
- Disbursements and outreach unsuccessful: Your organisation had multiple failed disbursements and did not respond to Benevity's outreach to resolve the issue.
- Duplicate profile: Your organisation has a duplicate profile on the platform. This can happen after a merger, a change in filing status that results in a new government ID, or in rare cases, a system error. The duplicate profile is deactivated and redirected to the active one.
An outstanding UK Use of Funds Declaration is not a reason your organisation is inactive or removed from search. Donors can still find your profile; however, the Donate option may be unavailable for gifts that would go through The UK Online Giving Foundation (UKOGF) until the declaration is current. Learn more about What happens if I don't complete the UK Use of Funds Declaration.
Client programme eligibility
Your organisation may not appear in some employers' giving programmes even if it's active on the platform overall. This is a programme-specific eligibility restriction set by the employer and doesn't affect your platform-wide status or your ability to receive donations through other programmes.
Restoring your organisation's status
The steps you can take depend on the reason for your inactive status:
- If your organisation lost its charitable status, resolve the compliance issue with your governing regulatory body first. Once your status is updated in their records, contact Benevity to re-apply.
- If your organisation doesn't meet Terms of Use requirements, contact Benevity to start the Appeals and Remediation process. For details on how that process works, see What happens if my organisation is found out of compliance?
- If you believe your status is incorrect or you're not sure why your organisation is inactive, contact Benevity's support team.
All organisations are welcome to re-apply once they're able to meet Benevity's platform requirements.
