The Causes Terms of Use is a legal agreement your nonprofit must accept to use the Benevity Causes Portal. Only the profile owner can complete it. Sub-users on the account cannot accept the Terms on behalf of your organization.
If your organization does not meet the Terms of Use requirements, your profile can be deactivated from the Benevity Causes Portal. You can accept the Terms during registration, while registering an unclaimed profile, or when Benevity prompts you to accept an updated version.
During registration or profile claim
Use this path when you are creating a new Causes Portal account or claiming your organization's profile for the first time.
- Go to causes.benevity.org and start registration, or follow the link in your invitation email to claim your nonprofit's profile.
- Complete the registration or claim form with your organization and contact details.
- Select I have read and understood Benevity Causes Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
- Select I have permission and authority to create this account on behalf of my organization.
- Select Register or Submit to finish.
If the current profile owner is no longer with your organization, transfer profile ownership before you try to accept the Terms.
For a claimed profile
Use this path when your organization already has a claimed profile and Benevity requires a new or updated Terms of Use agreement.
When a Terms of Use agreement is pending, go to causes.benevity.org. The portal redirects you to the Terms page automatically. You cannot use other portal features until you accept the Terms.
- Follow the redirect to the Terms of Use page. The page title is Causes Terms of Use the first time you accept, or We have updated our Terms of Use when Benevity has published an update.
- Read through the full Terms to the end. If you have trouble reading them in the portal, you can also view the Terms of Use as a separate document.
- Select I Agree to the Terms of Use. The portal returns you to your dashboard.
If you manage more than one organization from the same account, accepting the Terms applies to all Causes Portal profiles linked to your user account.
You can also open the current Terms at any time from the Terms of Use link in the portal footer.
What if I can't accept the Terms of Use?
Try these steps:
- Confirm you are using the profile owner account, not a sub-user account.
- Ask your organization's current owner to accept the Terms if you are not the profile owner, or transfer profile ownership first.
- Read through the Terms to the end before selecting I Agree to the Terms of Use. An error appears if you try to accept before you reach the end.
- Refresh your browser and try again if the page does not load or you receive an error after accepting.
