You can apply to register for your organization's profile if it’s already registered by someone else, and you want to update the owner. This often happens if the previous owner is an employee who is no longer with the organization. Keeping your profile accurate protects access to your organization's information.
Before you apply, try to contact the current account owner. If they still work with your organization, they can add you as a subuser instead.
Starting the ownership change request
To request ownership of an existing profile:
- Begin the registration process, or log in if you already have a user profile.
- Select your organization's operating country.
- Search for your organization by government ID, registration ID, or name.
- Filter the results by state or province, if needed.
- Select your organization from the search results.
- Complete the authorization checkboxes on the form.
- Select Apply to Register and submit your application.
During the ownership review
After you submit the request, you’ll be asked to provide user verification documents for review.
Benevity notifies the current account owner so that they can approve or contest the request. If the current owner contests the request, your request is denied, and access is removed. For security, new applicants have limited access during the authorization period.
Repeated attempts to claim the same profile may lead to account suspension. Benevity encourages organizations to resolve ownership disputes directly when possible.
What if I can contact the current owner?
Ask the current account owner to add you as a subuser. This is the fastest way to get access when the current owner is still with your organization.
If you have already created an account using the email you wish to use for a subuser account, you or the primary owner will need to contact support to remove the existing account.
