How do I remove a subuser from my profile?

You can remove a subuser when someone no longer needs access to your organization's Benevity Causes Portal profile. Only a user with the Cause Owner role can do this. Removal unlinks that person from your organization and deactivates their login so they can no longer manage your profile. If you need to add a subuser or change roles instead, use Manage Subusers on the same profile.

Removing a subuser

Use Manage Subusers on your organization profile to remove access for someone who should no longer log in. The primary profile owner does not appear in this list. You can only remove secondary subusers from here.

  1. Log in to the Benevity Causes Portal.
  2. Select Cause Profile in the left-hand menu.
  3. Select Manage Subusers.
  4. Select the subuser you want to remove.
  5. Select Delete Subuser.
  6. Confirm the prompt Are you sure you want to REMOVE this Subuser?

After removal, the subuser can no longer log in to manage your organization's profile. Their username and email stay reserved in the system, so you cannot reuse the same credentials to create them again. Historical donations, reports, and content created while they had access remain associated with your organization. Only their portal access is removed.

Can I deactivate a subuser instead of deleting them?

The Benevity Causes Portal does not have a separate deactivate option on the Manage Subusers screen. Delete Subuser is the control that removes access. It unlinks the person from your organization and deactivates their login.

If you need to restore access later, create a new subuser with a new username. Contact Causes Support if the email address is already in use.

What if I have duplicate subuser accounts?

If two subuser records exist for the same person (for example after a staff change), remove the outdated login using Delete Subuser. Then create a new subuser with the correct email and roles. Don't share one login between multiple people.
