My nonprofit has already been registered

If your nonprofit's account on the Benevity Causes Portal shows a banner stating, "This organization has already been registered," another team member has claimed the account. The banner will display the partially redacted email address of the current owner.

If your nonprofit account has already been registered by someone else within your organization, there are two ways to proceed:

1. Contact the current account owner

Request to have the current owner add you as a subuser on the account. The subuser feature allows the account owner to add team members to the account and assign permissions according to the level of access required. (See: How to add a subuser article here)

Please note that sharing login credentials is prohibited and is in violation of the Cause Terms of Use. If you cannot identify the existing profile owner or if that person is no longer with your organization, you can apply to take over ownership of the account.

2. Apply to take ownership of the account:

Maintaining a current and valid owner on your account ensures that your organization’s information remains accurate and secure. Up-to-date account information also helps attract and retain supporters and boost your eligibility for Benevity’s client programs.

  • Begin the registration process or log in if you have already created a user profile.
  • Select your organization’s operating country.
  • Search for your organization by Government ID, Registration ID, or name, and filter results by State or Province.
  • Once your account is located, click on “Select.”
  • Complete the authorization check boxes on the form and click “Apply to Register.”
  • Complete the remaining registration steps and submit your application.

Upon submission of your application, the current account owner will receive a notification of this change. If the current account owner contests the request, it will be declined, and any access will be revoked.

For security purposes, a brief authorization period temporarily limits new applicants' access to specific account features.

Repeated attempts to reclaim the profile may result in your account suspension. We encourage all parties in your organization to collaborate to resolve disputes.
