If a concern is raised about your organization, Benevity will review it against the Causes Terms of Use. Concerns can come from Benevity's own monitoring, reports submitted by users, or notifications from regulatory authorities.
Benevity takes all compliance concerns seriously. If your organization is found to be out of compliance, you'll have the opportunity to go through an Appeals and Remediation process before any final decision is made.
The Appeals and Remediation process
During the review, Benevity will contact your organization directly to gather information. Depending on the nature of the concern, you may be asked to provide:
- A formal attestation confirming compliance with the Causes Terms of Use
- A declaration confirming adherence to Benevity's Military Use of Funds Policy
Important: While a Terms of Use review is in progress, disbursements are paused for your organization across foundations. This is different from an outstanding UK Use of Funds Declaration, which pauses only donations that would go through UKOGF.
Outcomes after the review
There are two possible outcomes at the end of the Appeals and Remediation process:
- Compliance confirmed: Your organization is reinstated and disbursements resume.
- Deactivation: If your organization can't confirm compliance within the agreed timeframe, it will be deactivated. Any donations held during the review are returned to the donors and companies that made them.
If your organization is deactivated, you're welcome to contact Benevity to re-apply once you're able to meet all platform requirements.
What if a regulatory body flags my organization?
If an official regulatory body in your jurisdiction formally deems your organization non-compliant, your organization will be moved to inactive status on the Benevity platform. To regain eligibility, resolve the compliance issue with your governing body first, then contact Benevity to re-apply. What if my organization cannot complete a UK Use of Funds Declaration?
The yearly UK Use of Funds Declaration is a separate requirement from The UK Online Giving Foundation (UKOGF). An outstanding declaration does not start this Appeals and Remediation process and does not deactivate your organization.
