Benevity takes the eligibility of nonprofit organizations very seriously to maintain the integrity of its platform and ensure that donors, volunteers, and grant-makers can trust the organizations they support.
The eligibility assessment process helps safeguard the platform from fraudulent activities, ensures compliance with legal standards, and upholds the values and priorities of our clients.
- Maintaining charitable status: Your organization must hold valid charitable status according to the laws and regulations of the relevant regulatory bodies of the country where it operates.
- Adherence to Benevity’s Terms: Your organization must comply with Benevity’s Causes Terms of Us and Platform Guidelines, which include strict prohibitions against activities such as hate speech, discrimination, military use of funds, sanctions, and financial crime.
- Third-party vetting: Benevity partners with trusted third-party experts, such as TechSoup Global for initial vetting and validation, and Moody’s for ongoing monitoring. These partnerships ensure that all organizations meet consistent standards and are screened against sanctions and recognized watchlists.
- Ongoing monitoring: After being onboarded, your organization will be subject to ongoing monitoring to ensure continued compliance with regulatory requirements. If any official regulatory body deems your organization ineligible, it will be moved to "inactive" status within Benevity's database.
If found to be out of compliance, your organization will have the opportunity to address the issues through Benevity’s Appeals and Remediation process. Failure to meet the requirements will result in the deactivation of your organization from the platform.
