When does my Self-Certification Declaration expire and how will I be reminded?

Your Self-Certification Declaration is valid for one year from the date you submit it. You can check your expiry date in the Benevity Causes Portal. Benevity sends you reminder emails before your declaration expires so you have time to renew.

If your declaration expires, your organization becomes ineligible to receive donations through Benevity client workplace giving programs until you renew your declaration.

Finding your expiry date

  1. Log in to the Benevity Causes Portal.
  2. Select Certification in the left-hand menu.
  3. Review the expiry date shown for your current declaration.

Depending on the status of your declaration, the page shows one of these notices:

  • Active (more than 3 months to expiry): “Your next Certification is due on [date]”
  • Approaching expiry (within 3 months): an Action Required banner with “Your Current Certification will expire on [date]”
  • Expired: “Your Current Certification expired on [date]”

When action is required, the Certification item in the left-hand menu also displays an attention indicator so you can see the status without navigating to the page.

Note: Renewing early starts a new one-year term from the day you submit the new declaration. You do not keep any unused time from your previous declaration.

Reminder emails

Three months before your declaration expires, Benevity begins sending automated reminder emails to your primary account owner. If the person who originally submitted your declaration is different from the current primary account owner and is still associated with your organization, they also receive these reminders.

Each email subject also includes your organization name and registration number. The emails explain that your eligibility for donations from Benevity client programs will lapse and include a direct link to renew your declaration.

Reminder emails are sent once per interval and cannot be re-sent manually. If you are not receiving reminders, check that your primary account owner’s email address is current.

Receiving the “Ineligible for Donations” email means your declaration has lapsed. Renew your Self-Certification Declaration as soon as possible to restore eligibility.

What happens when my declaration expires?

When your declaration expires, your organization is no longer eligible to receive donations through Benevity client workplace giving programs, and several client companies remove your organization from their programs. The Certification page in the portal shows that your declaration has expired, and you receive an “Ineligible for Donations” email.

You can submit a new declaration at any time to restore eligibility, subject to Benevity’s review process.

Only the primary account owner or a subuser with declaration permissions can submit a renewal. To give a team member this access, add them as a sub-user.
